2020 - Due to the increasing rise in sea levels brought about by global warming, many coastal regions are abandoned. New York and neighboring New Jersey expand their levee systems in hopes of staving off the rising waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Japan becomes the world's largest exporter of rare metals, breaking the Chinese monopoly, and increases tensions further between the two countries. Chiba region of Tokyo is evacuated as rising sea levels begin to encroach.

 

2021 -The global economic collapse starts to seem inevitable and all of the civilized worlds countries gather to discuss the strategy on how to solve the problem, no one can agree on a solution.

 

2023 -The tension in the USA between the left wing and right wing becomes so extreme that a civil war seems unavoidable, the country goes through a drawn out process where some states band together and shut out the federal government.

 

2024 - Martial Law is declared in most major cities as the federal government brings back it's troops from international waters to intimidate the states to fall in line under federal control. Following the withdrawal of the US naval fleet from Yokosuka, Japan, the Japanese government pushes through legislation to reinstate the the military's power.

 

2025 - Civil War breaks out in the USA and with the states in turmoil, the rest of the world stand watching as many of the world banks start flushing out money into offshore havens, this escalates all conflicts across the globe as countries starts focusing on requiring resources as the free market slowly withers.

 

2025 - Nukes go off in the US, blowing up Denver and it's surrounding cities. No one steps up to claim responsibility for the attack. This starts a 20 year old global war, where every country is fighting over the worlds resources where no weapons are off the table. Naval skirmishes over various disputed islands begin in Asia Pacific.

 

2026 - While North America, Europe and Asia are busy fighting each other. South America and Africa see great opportunity for a union. This is the start of a shift in economic power to South America. This is also the year when the US officially splits into: West America, New America, New England, California Free State, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, The Federation. The complete collapse of the US government leads to a temporary truce between the nations of Asia as bankers/policymakers attempt to save the global economy. 

 

2027 - With the old US troops now suddenly gone from the middle east, confusing emerges. Alliances builds and fails, temporary peace and wars start breaking out in total chaos as the Arab world tries to come to terms with new power structures. India starts moving into Afghanistan.

 

2028 - A bio weapon attack hits Egypt, killing 90% of the population, Israel claims it has nothing to do with the attack but shortly after starts emigrating it's population to Egypt, from the war zone that is expanding between Israel and Palestine. Increases in robotic technology and AI technology allows Japan to develop the first robotic military unit. 

 

2029 - A team of Viennese scientists led by Dr. Nicolette Thallbren announce the creation of the first so-called brain box, a computer with organic and cybernetic components. The development of the brain box further increases the demand for rare earth metals. Flush with cash, the government, with the help of various private organizations, begin the construction of Sky City 1.

 

2030 - The Stalinites communist party claims control over russia and within a year re arms the nukes from the cold war, at the end of the year they slowly start acquiring land from east bloc Europe with threats of nuclear power.

 

2031 - Israeli-Arab Nuclear War begins. A limited nuclear exchange between Iran, Israel, and Pakistan results in the destruction of much of the Fertile Crescent. Most of Israel is destroyed in addition to cities throughout Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Syria, and Egypt. The majority of Israel’s population flee the Holy Land. Likewise, most of their neighbors leave the region.

 

 

2035 - Global population declines for the first time in centuries in the wake of massive crop failures. The cities hit hardest by fallout, rising water levels, and a lack of

clean drinking water become ghost towns, many of which are never reclaimed. Famine, disease, and civil strife are common in all quarters of the globe. Order breaks down.

 

2036 - Japan's population takes a massive hit as many countries halt the export of food stuffs and other critical items. This begins a new policy of total isolationism, genetic engineering of crops, and an increased nationalistic fervor as the military is further built up to withstand the advances of the Chinese and Koreans.

 

2038 - The Japanese military stages a coup d’état in the face of Chinese expansionism. The nation institutes a provisional government termed the “Techno Shogunate.” General Hiro

Minotoro is named the military head of government. He reorganizes the Diet, the former Japanese parliament, into a civilian advisory panel with no real authority.

 

2040 - Sky City 1 is completed in Nagoya. The finished super structure has a base that spans over 2500 ft wide and stretches up almost 200 floors. The structure becomes a retreat for the rich and powerful, and soon Nagoya and the surrounding area becomes a slum.

 

2041 - New Orleans is officially abandoned by The Federation when it becomes apparent sea walls are no longer protecting the city from the ocean. Inundated by flooding, Southern

Florida becomes little more than a collection of small islands.. The rest is claimed by rising water levels. Other lowland regions such as the Netherlands, central England,

Denmark, and much of New England, including New York, begin preparations for mass evacuations.

 

2042 - After years of massive conflict in the Eastern Bloc of Europe, the nukes hit Warsaw. It is believed Russia and the Stalinites are behind the attack, but they deny it in fear of repercussions from the now growing city state of Berlin.

 

2043 - Tokyo is hit by an 8.5 magnitude earthquake, breaking levees the were holding back Tokyo Bay. Close to a million civilians are killed. General Minotoro moves the capital to Osaka. 

 

2044 - China announces plans to land a ship on Mars within ten years. Berlin and Brazil follow suit, announcing similar goals. California Free State, in a bid to outshine its neighboring rivals, also declares its intention to journey to Mars, but swiftly issues a clarification, deciding to travel to the Moon instead.

 

2046 - Japan start building The Silver Palace, a huge cylindrical space station orbiting Earth. It is said to be funded by the Yakuza.

 

2049 - The offshore havens gets bombed by economical terrorists and a virus sweeps the world wiping the world banks currency. This creates further chaos but with military power spread so thin countries start issuing their own money again without any repercussions from world bank supported military forces. In turn this also leads to an explosion in market value of gold and a golden age begins for South America, Europa and Japan.

 

2050 - The good fortune of the preceding years allows the Japanese government to begin recovery from the devastating earthquake. Construction of further Sky City projects begins in Osaka and Sendai. Blueprints are laid out for the rebuilding of Tokyo.

 

2051 - People around the world celebrate “The Good Year,” marked by the return of normal climate patterns as the final visible effects of crop death begin to end. The first true summer in nearly a decade yields a bumper crop. The old North American holiday of Thanksgiving is adopted worldwide, albeit using dates best suited to the harvest cycle of each country.

 

2052 - Amazon Wars in South America and Central Africa see the first use of gene-spliced, bio-augmented warriors. Over the next few years, similar genetically modified super soldiers are used throughout Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

 

2054 - Dr. Elyse Shu of Pyongyang creates Wook, the first Android. Produced by merging cloning technology with the organic computing of the so-called “brain boxes” and then using accelerated VR, Wook (though only six months old) experiences more than a decade worth of virtual instruction prior to his decantation. Hailed as great advance for humanity by some and the first step to the creation of a slave race by others, Wook’s arrival ignites a great debate around the world over the nature of humanity and sentience.

 

 

2057 - China successfully lands on Mars. Teams from Berlin and Brazil arrive later that year. The first man on Mars is Fong Wei of China.

 

2058 - Human-Android relationships becomes a talking point around the world as more and more humans turn to androids for companionship. Hate crimes increase around the world.

 

2060 - Cereus Media’s “Law and Order and Justice” web channel LOJ3 adds Death Row to their reality show line-up, featuring the last weeks of a group of death row inmates chosen from all over the world. At the end, each inmate is publicly executed in the manner prescribed by his or her region of origin. Methods include electrocution, firing squad, lethal injection, gassing, hanging, stoning, and crucifixion. The show was so popular it runs for 22 seasons, spawning a host of imitators and remains in syndication to this day. A spin-off with nothing but executions also proves popular.

 

2062 - The first documented case of SimStim addiction brings the issue of VR addiction to the forefront of public attention. The notion that someone can use a STRAP to receive a coded data pulse that generates an intensely pleasurable sensation intrigues some while outraging the sensibilities of many others.

 

2063 - Japan signs a landmark Bio Treaty with Brazil to begin production of simulacrums to replace much of the aged Japanese workforce and military. The simulacrums are immediately put to work on the construction of the Sky Cities and the laying of the foundation for Tokyo 2.

 

2064 - Dr. Kayin Courts of the University of Timbuktu wins the Nobel Prize in Linguistics for her development of the Real-Time Translator at age 22.

 

2065 - Due to the use of simulacrums, Sky City 2 and 3 (in Osaka and Sendai respectively) are completed ahead of schedule and under budget. Manual workforce is all but displaced in Japanese society as the dying population is slowly replaced by simulacrums.

 

2067 - Dr. Courts improves the STRAP, making it more integrated, less invasive, more powerful and easier to upgrade. The new device becomes known as the TAP for its three primary pieces of hardware: the biosynthetic Tendrils that encompass the user’s brain, the subcutaneous Access chip inserted at the base of the skull and the subcutaneous Processing device. One million people worldwide receive the injection during the first year alone.

 

 

2068 - Anti-Android politician and moralist Karl Guttsdun of Prague was caught in a compromising position with a leisure model. Disgraced, Guttsdun was forced to resign. A movement to ban leisure models as a danger to public morals fails when journalists reported the backers of the initiative included investors in a chain of human-only brothels.

 

2070 - California Free State establishes a colony on Mars. Incarcerated criminals with life sentences or death sentences are given the opportunity to work on the red planet as indentured servants in exchange for full pardons at the end of their term of service. Android

labor is also used extensively.

 

2072 - Leaders from around the world enact the Omega Protocols. Because of the divided opinions on the possibility of a Singularity event, some countries refuse to sign the protocols while others pay them lip service to pacify nervous elements of their own populations.

Despite this skepticism, many law enforcement firms embrace the protocols and create divisions specifically dedicated to keeping an eye on rogue AIs and their human followers.

 

2071 - The Puppeteer Murders transfix the attention of three continents. Evidence of ritualistic slayings committed by many different people, none of whom apparently have any memory of actually committing the deed, baffle authorities. It is not until someone suggests that an outside agent influenced them through the STRAPs imbedded in their brains that a grim realization dawns. When questioned about the possibility, many of the perpetrators report experiencing particularly vivid dreams.

 

2074 - Mulik Jay announces his intention to upload his personality into a computer. He succeeds, but all four of his colleagues die because of some unknown flaw in the process. This 80 percent failure rate for uploading remains consistent and presents a baffling puzzle to scientists.

 

2075 - South America unnoticed by the rest of the world for many years has in the shadows turned into a high tech continent. Sprawling huge clean cities integrated with nature has sprung forward with the major religion in the area now being a wierd mix of Aztec and Catholicism. The winged cross being their symbol.

 

2077 - The Silver Palace is completed a space station orbiting earth. Once people realize it lies beyond the jurisdictions of earths laws, it proves the best offshore haven for all Crime Organizations and many banks. The Yakuza who funded the project become rich beyond their dreams.

 

2080 - The Southlands, the center zone in Europe starts being rebuilt and outposts spring up with mandatory radiation readings to be sure the zone is safe.

 

2081 - Cybertech surgical procedures are now safe enough that everyday people start buying them.

 

2083 - For the first time in a long time, all major wars seems to have settled and new country and city-state boundaries seems set for the future.

 

2086 - Biotechnica patents meat farms, where they grow muscle fibers artificially in huge processing plants. For the first time in years meat is something normal people can afford.

 

2087 - Arasaka Corporation is officially the worlds largest military force, although it still works as security for hire and it's soldiers are spread all over the world.

 

2088 - The African Union now rich with resources collapses into tribal wars yet again, it is believed the Mega corporation interests are behind it. Former Egypt now known as New Israel starts building a huge wall surrounding their country.

 

2089 - The United Kingdom is declared a dictatorship

 

2090 - The new androids hit the market in Japan, they look just like humans and are said to be able to reproduce, this creates quite the controversy.

 

2091 - All contact with Mars is lost.
